Could I please have some insight into whether Saturday or Sunday is busiest at your club, and why.
We struggle to accommodate everyone on Saturdays, but Sunday numbers are much lower.
In our case, it is partly that we also have youth and Sailability activities on Saturday, but our Sat gen handicap race is better attended than Sunday class racing too
Cheers
Clive (FPSC sailing Sec)

Hi Clive
We have always raced on Saturday afternoons and having tried all sorts of formats for Sundays over the years now use it occasionaly for social sailing and some training days.
Most other clubs I know seem to be Sunday mornings.

In winter:
Sunday for traditional club racing- including handicap racing for non-fleet boats. AIUI it varies fleet to fleet which race is the more popular.
Saturday for training, Youth & Junior and Get Racing / Short Course stuff
I prefer the vibe on Saturdays tbh...
In summer:
As above, plus Friday night for Y&J, Wednesday Night for club racing (Lasers still the most popular option by a country mile)

At my previous club, ESSC, Sunday was always the racing day, with Saturday being used for training, and practice, with now I believe some racing taking place. In Topsham our weekend Yawl racing has generally been on Sundays too, but we are experimenting with alternating Sat and Sun next year to, hopefully, allow a wider range of people to take part.

We have a Saturday afternoon series and a Sunday morning series. The Sunday morning series has been the more serious one for many years, and the Saturday one is diminishing.

Saturdays are much much busier than Sundays at our place. Lots of Junior activity, lots of adult training and - just recently - race training that has been attracting up to 20 taking part.
Sundays, on the other hand, struggle to make double figures even in the Summer, with most Sundays lucky to see afternoon races take place as there are so few takers.

Saturdays are purely for training or freeriding/sailing/cruising all our events take place on Sunday, club racing in the mornings can't get an afternoon session going unless it's a special event like the Ship Race or an Open Meet.

At Combs, Saturday for training, family sailing and messing about. Sunday for club racing Wed night for racing in summer. GP and Supernova open on Saturdays but Bytes over two days joining in with club racing on the Sunday.
If I call down on a Saturday it is full of people I don't know but the atmosphere is very pleasant.

At Hunts racing has always been on a Sunday with Saturdays kept fro training/cruising and Open meetings.
There are some club events that span the whole weekend and some classes have 2 day events with the Sunday being run in with club racing.
Saturdays are always a more relaxed affair with a fair few families and youngsters out sailing, messing around and the like.
We do get non racers on a Sunday but the racing fraternity usually out number them significantly.

At inland clubs I have been a member of Sunday is always the racing day and Saturday more for training/social sailing.
Since moving south clubs here tend to sail on both days as we are tidally limited so make the most of the water when we have it.

At Tynemouth, we have racing on Sunday afternoons, with sunday mornings currently an informal coaching session, helping to bridge the gap between RYA2 and competitive sailing.
Weds evenings are very popular for serious racers, where we have a highly competitive Ent fleet.
Friday evenings junior sessions with some informal adult sailing whilst we have safety cover
Saturdays only used for special events, but the clubhouse if often rented for weddings, parties etc in saturdays

We used to race on both Sat & Sun assuming the tide was in. Attendance on Saturdays was pretty poor so we now have training or what we term free sailing, where the people who turn up can organise to go for a cruise up the river, or hold race training or just sail around in a designated area. It seems to work well and we focus on Sundays for racing.

West Oxfordshire SC-Saturdays might be Junior team racing, novices racing or free sailing with safety boat in the summer. Sundays for handicap racing. Easy enough when the water doesn't go up and down or side to side like Craiggo's, Wednesdays in summer. I reckon we could get Friday evening racing going too-used to do it for Ladies sailing.

Royal Harwich,
Our most popular is the Wednesday Evening Series during Summer, with 'different' races on Sunday such as a race to the Orwell Bridge and a Scatter Race with the river's channel marks being more popular than standard Sunday racing. As its tidal racing is at different times and Sunday afternoons tend to be more popular.
Saturday sees a lot of junior sailing / RYA Onboard, hopefully these will trickle into club racing in due course.
Evening racing is fantastic.

Blackwater SC
For dinghy racing its a very even split between Saturdays and Sundays, leaning towards Sundays by maybe 3 -5% over the season. We have Saturday and Sunday series races so that those committed elsewhere at the weekends have a chance to win a series either way. Trophy weekends / days over bank holidays are varied with single Saturday and Sundays trophies, 2 day bank holiday events and one 4 day event.
Tuesdays and Fridays for adult beginners is very popular.
Cruiser racing tends to mix up the weekends more due to the inter club series.

Crosby SC Club dinghy racing Sundays all through the year Saturdays recreational sailing, new learners and coaching Friday evening new learners , free sailing. Moves to Saturday when evening light fails. Wednesday evening racing in summer, but this has fallen off the race coaching for newer racers. We have the facility to sail / race in the evening due to lake can be flood lit but not very regularly used.
