Hello,

In trying to maintain a good level during Sunday racing at our local club, we would like to place some posters around the club house explaining the basic racing rules. At my past surfing club there were very simple drawings explaining priority rules - I am looking for the same thing for dinghy sailing.

Does anybody here have a recommendation? A pdf or a link would be welcome. Do you have such a thing at your club?

Regards,

I obviously did that before posting here, but did not find a simple clear diagram.

Never seen that before, it's good - though perhaps not quite the "simple" diagram the OP is looking for.

How about this?
Very crude I'm afraid, based on something I knocked up for club training many years ago.

There are three graphics in this post

Think carefully about what you want to achieve with the poster:
  • reminder of what people already know
  • short explanation of what people don't know
  • etc.

The clear astern/ahead one there is a bit confusing, Brass, as the boat behind is blue (=ROW?). Don't you need to be around to discuss that, rather than leave it on a noticeboard? Think I prefer Jim's example for that rule.

With Jim's, I'd prefer to see the actual rule numbers in place of the present 1,2,3...

Constructive remarks, I hope.

Thank you for the links. Indeed the first proposition is a little overcomplicated for what we are trying to achieve.
We need simple diagrams to remind our fellow competitors about the basic rules of racing as there seems to be a little confusion from time to time.

I like Jim's link, with a little bit of rearranging, I think I could produce a decent poster (good idea about adding rule numbers!).

The Blue/Yellow diagrams were just examples of the concept I knocked up in a hurry.  Never intended to signify right of way by colour.

I've always had a bit of a problem with red/green:  does it mean give way/right of way or does it mean port/starboard.
