This is going to provide quite a spectacular snapshot on worldwide popularity of classes, and no doubt when its out there all sorts of enthusiasts will be merrily spinning about how their boat is really much more popular than it looks in spite of the fact that only three of them raced in the whole world...

Suppose I could get in first, the Canoe's excuse will be that a significant percentage of the top end of our world fleet is on container ships coming back from San Francisco...

I was surprised with so few 505s. I'm not sure the data will tell us anything more than who did the bash.

Seeing as wind strengths are included in the delivery of the results it would be interesting to apply the PY formula to the whole data set (grouped by wind strength) and see what the differences between the "wind strength" PY's are for the various classes.  I think they may be a lot closer (and possibly not a million miles from the published PY) than people qould imagine.

If you actually look at what the 'results' are throwing up you will realise that it was just a nice day out and nothing, except numbers of entrants (and they aren't even picking those up accurately) has any comparative relevance. Shame really but only to be expected.

The only conclusion is everybody (probably) had a good day's sailing. The results/speeds mean nothing, especially as you were allowed to set a "round the cans" course which might not have included a biased beat or no beat at all. I guess you have to have a "result" or else it would not count as a "race" for Mr Guiness.

I think it'll be quite good for classes on how healthy/how many boats are actually club sailing probably better than looking at National attendance list.

Our results are through now...but...our wind speed was 0-7 and the shown wind speed is 8-18. I suppose it dosent matter. Shame though for our winner who looks to have performed badly in class.

Same problem for me iitick. I finished miles in front of a very well sailed streaker at our club but in class I am very well down. Doesn't matter though really, it was a good day for the right reasons
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

They seem to have changed my class!
I entered as and was sailing a D-One, although checking now I'm in a D-Zero but no result posted as I assume they haven't worked out as number for the Zero yet!
I'll have to have a word with our results coordinator.
