The Topper Breeze could probably have benefited from the kind of makeover the Blaze had in order to iron out all the problems. I guess if you could find one, it would be pretty cheap by keelboat standards, and you could make the rigging changes it might need to bring it up to date.
The RS Venture is offered as a keel version, too, but that is more like the Stratos in feel. |

The problem with boats like the Stratos and Venture is, as Corms has said, that they would not be regarded as keelboats.
I looked at racing an RS Elite in our local cruiser racing, but it doesn't meet Cat 5 in the ORC safety regulations as demanded by the SIs, in that the cockpit volume is too great. Oddly, the K1 meets the regs to the letter and has an NHC number, but I'm sure the race committee would freak out if you turned up on the cruiser start line with one. The larger K2 sounds like it would meet Corms needs but I suspect would fail to meet the SIs for a similar reason to the Elite; would be worth checking though.

Fleet of K-6s at my club. They race in the fast asymetric fleet being MUCH too quick to race the "cruisers". They used to be a good match for the 5o5s and Javelins until they decided they wanted to race windward leeward and decamped to sail with the RS700 and 800s instead.
.... and therein is a bit of a problem with them, having a huge kite to make downwind fun, they tend to broach on tight kite reaches when its windy (F6 +). They can turtle if the keel is pulled up, so it's dropped as soon as they're in sufficient depth and before the main sail goes up. As a modern alternative to a flying 15 they're great .. but as a quick cruiser / keel boat, probably not.

Does anyone know where the Highlight Dayboat designed by Keith Gallaghan is, I know it was for sale a while ago it looked similar to his newer Bluemotion (BM 550) design.
Something like that may be a good compromise as I think it had a weighted centreboard. |

Still looking for the right boat.
The Bluemotion 550 looks a lovely boat but just to expensive for my budget, that why I would be interested to find out about the Highlight day boat. Still interested in suggestions. |

I had an old Tempest for a while and it was a wonderful boat to sail.... Properly fast with tons of canvas - great boat, especially for the money.

Wouldn't be able to launch and recover the Tempest from our slipway but it looks like it could be good fun.
Really needs to be a lifting keel.

Tempest keel does lift (we did it for launch and recovery at Oxford each week), just not as smoothly and easily as the K6.
