I'd say bustinben has a point - there are times when getting the boat clear of the waves quickly is going to be far less likely to be the cause ofinjury than strugging to get the boat onto a trolley in the breaking wave. Even being able to carry the boat a boat length clear of the water could be useful.

Its quite common at beach sailing clubs (not grf's  Wink), in a swell to lift boats out of the water and carry them to there trolley (at grf's club they drag them across the shingle). This will be much easier with a lighter hull and lighter rig.  In some ways its easier with a dagger board, as it can be lifted clear, rather than a ctr board where it can fall back down when the boat is being carried.

Yup, not tongue in cheek at all.   Not sure why RS would get in trouble if someone hurt themselves while doing it.  Wouldn't the same apply to all the other potential injuries when you go out in the breeze?

I wonder what the HSE would have to say about hiking?  When I visited a knee surgeon he rolled his eyes at me when I explained it to him...

Yes but at clubs where that happens they usually have a beach crew to assist with recovery. To safely carry that boat you would need 3 people. 1 at the mast tip and 2 on the hull.

To do what they are doing in the picture you would need to capsize your boat in the surf then carry it out. Still look like a good idea?

At the Scorpion nationals (many year back) at Sidmouth they have a veritable army to assist with launching and recovery. 6 people on each boat and you carried them out and put them on the trollies before teaming up to get them up the beach.

Dr Death prepares to launch on one of our more benign days, low water, reasonable breeze, which is why the Laser is so popular here, nobody much wants to trash a new boat here, other than the mentally unsound like myself..

It's all better now - didn't need any surgery, just some quality time with a physio and lots of exercises to change my muscle balance  Wink  Luckily all paid for through my work health insurance...

Isn't that just 3-6 people who are going to get hurt when you mistime it rather than one  LOL

6 people aren't going to be able to help if you decide to land on the beach in front of a big set.

I've got my laser out of the water by capsizing it and helping it up the beach on the gunwhale, I figure half the hull weight just makes it that bit easier.

I don't know what the construction materials are in the Aero but lightweight PVC foam core boats don't take kindly to pebbles.
We have an old 800 at the club that looks like a roof tilers nailbag.

Lasers do put up with it quite well.

Nothing I'd expect, if it's not work related then they're not really interested.
