Hello Chic,

I believe I may currently own the Projection 920 that you do not know the original name of. Currently called "Sleeper" named by a previous owner, who owned a company producing railway sleepers!

The yachts original name was " No Compromise" another Projection 920 that I believe sailed on the Solent was named "Going Bananas"

I love the boat, I have owned it for the past five years and I have lots of fun with it. We have an excellent local club racing record, both under IRC and PY. Sadly I will be putting Sleeper up for sale soon, the wife wants me to purchase something more cruiser orientated, with hot and cold running water and heating!

Hi, sorry for the slow reply.

We did know about 'Sleeper' but that explains the name! I had no idea that it was originally named 'No Compromise'.
 
I'm curious to know more about 'Sleeper', we still have fantasies about an inboard engine and proper sleeping facilities!

Hey, Just an update, we have Crumpet and she is amazing. So excited every time I go sailing now. All I throw at her she just stands up and performs. When I put a crew on that knew what they were doing she wins well with IRC.970 and our club has started racing the new NHC and our last race we were @ 1.054... This must be a compliment as when we sail well we can beat it. These boats are giant slayers. Our biggest race of the year is this weekend from Jersey to Guernsey so watch this space The forecast is upwind 4-5 for about 30 miles.
I did have 1 question Chic is what is the upgrade that people do for the side stay anchor bolts, do you have a picture? I have had to repair a couple of soft spots on deck also, is this normal?
Also Wee Bear we chartered an X332 for Round Isle of Wight race and were the boat directly astern of you at the finish. You were looking sweet although a little bit concerned why I was taking your picture and now you know why!!

Our boat was originally named 'Crikey', owned by Nigel Theadom who is a rigger, so consequently all the mods got done very early! I don't have pictures but I'll try to get some for you. There is a bit of info on the thread regarding the shroud chainplates which broke on a few boats. I haven't heard of any other boats with deck soft spots so can't help you there... The Projection is a very well behaved boat in breeze - we recorded a max speed of 17.2 knots downwind last weekend, the sheets of spray were so high I couldn't see where I was going... Upwind it's a good idea to get the jib trimmer to hold on to the sheet whilst on the rail so you can let go the sheet if you get knocked over. With a bit of practice your trimmer can re-sheet after a knock-down virtually without stopping!

Darren,

For your information, Wee Bear used to have deck lifting issues. The previous owner was a ship builder, so he solved the issues by redesigning the inside bulkheads and also by moving the chainplates from the deck to the hull. This means that the issues are gone, but also that we now sailing her with non overlapping jibs.
