You could strap 2 of your Ninjas together and come up with something similar...

Well, lets think. The thing is certainly going to be lighter than a trimaran and maybe even lighter than a catamaran, and all sorts of structural stuff is easier when the mast is on a hull, not floating in mid air.
So there is logic to the concept. I think I would have wanted wider wings on the opposite side to the Ama so there was a decent chance of keeping the ama out of the water though. But actually, when I say "I would have wanted", that's a lie. Although I can see some arguments for the concept, I don't think I'd want to own one. It would be quite an experience to go for a trip round the bay though: I'd be up for that. |

I would imagine looking at the shape and the excessive gantry that is a kiwi R class.
5 axis CNC facilities are all over the place now. Plenty in blighty. I agree it is very exciting and the way forward and you are only limited really by 3D modelling ability, but..... Remember that (assuming you are tooling from it, rather than just glassing around it in a crude prototype fashion) to get that that bit of polystyrene milled out will cost circa £2500. That is for a hull alone, not hull and deck. And before you have sheathed it, faired it, hibuilded it, faired again, polished it, attached flanges. |
