Hi, what is your question please? If you cannot find it at all then please see CALENDAR from the main menu bar across the top of every page. Or is there something else making things difficult for you?

Of course I am looking at Calendar from the main menu bar, last year an actual calendar was visable.  The question is has the format changed.

It looks to me the format has changed I am sure it used to be an actual calendar which you could look at each month and actually see whats on each day either midweek or weekend.  The current format is not as good.

Sorry - I couldn't understand what you meant by "the wrong place". I wasn't intending to be patronising!

To answer: Yes, one of the ways in which we used to display fixtures has not been reproduced in the new calendar. We no longer display a 'month view' since that was listing every event for every class of boat across the entire country, which really isn't very useful.

The new calendar is optimised for searches agaist a particular class of boat, or club, enabling you to find suitable events much easier. We expected owners of Lasers in Devon to get annoyed scrolling through Etchells events on the Clyde, and so on.

One important feature is the linking of classes to handicap events, so you can find all the possible races that your own boat qualifies for, not just fleet-racing. This option can be switched off.

Obviously you might want to search for several different classes if you sail in several boats, and your geographical range may be quite high, but a 'month view' of all events would look extremely messy, believe me! I failed to find a pleasant and usable way to list the 82 events in our database for April (for example), especially when most occur on weekends, some overlap, and some clash yet are open to the same classes.

Hopefully that explains why we think the class/club search will help you find a helpful list much faster.

The good thing for me about the old system was because it showed ALL the events it was easy to separate the big handicap / interesting events/ dinghy weeks, where now without that ability it seems limited & makes the calendar less useful for ME & the way I used it to plan the years events.

I assume that this feature only works if the class or event has linked class`s to the event.

I just found the list all class`s / events link at the bottom of the page -- very impressive & kinda removes my concern.

It appears to be a job well done - cheers

When you select a class it shows the entered details for that class there is a checkbox at the topwhich then includes "handicap" events you can apparently turn up to. There does seem to be rather a lot and I'm not sure I'm really invited to turn up to the QM Spring series! (Try the Wayfarer class calendar (1 event so far) to see what I mean.
Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Yup, you are eligible for the QM events! They are 'open'; non-club-members can enter for a single day for a fee. I admit that there are a lot of similar club events that are filling up the lists somewhat.

It is a shame the other Wayfarer fleet-racing events are not listed yet - I will try to pester the class secretary! Whilst it requires their effort to add events to the calendar (well, they can always email me a spreadsheet) we hope that the publicity they get in return is worth it for the class.

I used the old calendar to identify sailing events month by month (Not specific to class) scheduled in my area with a view to attending not for sailing but for sailing event photography !!! I am sure you can you understand how the old calendar worked for this purpose. Wink
