We've just had confirmation that Pink Gin is coming to Scotland in February, so we'll have another Projection to race against!

Two in Sotland eh ?   how about trailing down to East Coast sailing Week in Blyth next year then ?, not far , it incorporates Northern sportsboats champs , I think we have one of the biggest mixed fleets in the country now , get visitors from all over and know how to party ... ?

Has anybody here got a backstay batten, or fitted one?

In the light wind races we've had recently (apart from last weekend's screamer) the backstay has been really irritating!

Don't know if I can fit one without taking the rig down which would be a hassle.

been thinking about one all year, reckon it will take getting the rig down to fit.  or someone very light, very strong and very brave to mess around up there with no backstay on!

I have a Tack Tick speed master (speed & depth) circa 2001 for sale, just checked out fine by Tack Tick. complete with mast cradle (not the bracket), new (large size) depth transducer, log transducer + spare and wiring.

I know that you Projectionists will have had this fitted originally so E mail nigel@rigmagic.co.uk if you are interested.

Ps. Backstay batten awkward to fit due to Z spar backstay attachment. Try not to drill batten. Use 4mm stripped Spectra for backstay. Use small block on outboard end of batten.

Doug, we were seriously thinking of coming down for ecsw anyway. It was on the Forth this year and I'm sure one or two boats from here will be travelling (or sailing). Can't speak for Pink Gin, though. It may be a bit early for them.

Nigel, I wish I'd known about your Tacktick a few months ago! Eventually I bought an unused one from Ebay; we've only had working speed for a few weeks now.

Re the backstay flipper - I'm going to fit one at the end of this season. I fitted one to my last boat and it is far too fiddly a job to go up the mast, so don't do it! I agree with Nigel, I did drill the batten and as a consequence it broke.

the sb3 batten backstay flipper was drilled, had 3 off centred srews fixing it to the crane if i remember correctly.  never broke, and we gave it some serious abuse, some teams didnt even bother removing it for transport!

We're thinking of trailing somewhere next year and will have to drop the rig for that so maybe that is the time for fitting one.

How do you fit it to the crane without drilling?

It would be nice to see another 762 at Blyth , craning will be free .I'm at an ECSW meet this sat , going up fri eve so we can sample Edinburgh delights .

we are looking at Cork week or back to Cowes , I'm informed that Cork can be rather expensive , even a lot more than Cowes ! One of our members had to pay £100 just to park his truck for the week  in 2006 !
I think it is a must do at some stage though ...  do we do sportsboats or IRC 4 ?

we will be fitting a flipper for backstay soon , new main will have some proper roach, I know this will effect my IRC number , however our local rating system don't include HW measurement , so as this is where we do most of our sailing ...

Doug .
