Spent the weekend working on the boat and had our new braced stanchions fitted which are fantastic. No more worrying when the crew grab them to stop falling out the boat!

Put some tuurning blocks on the foredeck for the pole downhaul which are a massive improvement. Next job is going to be turning blocks at the back end of the genoa tracks to sort out the riding turns we get every now and again. Has anybody done this and maybe got a photo?

Here's a photo of ours... They work well and we've never had a riding turn on the genoa sheets. You have to take a straightedge from the centre of the car sheave (set at its default position on the track) to the edge of the winch where the sheet winds on. The vertical block sits on this line close to the end of the track; this of course means that port and stbd vertical blocks are in very different places given that the winches both wind the same way!     Chic

Thanks a lot for that chic, very useful to see a picture.

Still got a surprisingly large amount of stuff I want to do to the boat but getting there now!

we are yet to do htis mod, i think a block on a spring through the end of the fairlead track would be best as it requires no extra holes and will feed perfectly with all jibs.

i havent found that we're getting riding turns, its the fact that if you forget or cant pre load the sheet they dont stow tidely, sometimes going overboard so this would cure that i hope?

We haven't had that many riding turns to be honest (that's why it's not too high up the list of jobs) but we've had a couple at really crucial points during races which are well annoying!

Out of interest, have you had any SIs for burnham week? I know you can download them from the website but they don't have the full appendices with the marks and courses.

That's cool. We'll be delivering pretty early on friday to catch the tide down from Harwich so plenty of time to get sorted in Burnham.

Let me know if you hear anything different though!

you must be getting up pretty early!!  we're sailing down on the wednesday, hopefully will be able to test the new sails, if not will be using the old bin liners.

got the new rating, 0.967, up from 0.962!

Looks a bit more like it! If you were 0.962 we'd be giving you plenty - we're 0.972.

Reckon we're going to leave about 5am. It's a bit late but my old man's bringing his yacht down (we're living on it for the week) so we've got a tow if there's no breeze.

How much new cloth have you got, everything?

we certainly need new sails, and the rating warrants it, more holes than a hookers underwear!!

weve got a new main, no1 and a no3, the spinnakers are in extremely good nick. got scott on the case up at quatums as we speak.

were just living in a tent at the rcyc, which really means if you come by my crew in the morning lying on the street somewhere give them a bloody good kick!
