I agree those 20c's are awesomely quick..
F16, F18 now F17.. can I have an F19 so I can still drink beer and be competitive.. :) I think for the Olympics the 17 is the perfect boat.. it ticks every box box and many more.. but the idea of the Olympics is to be involving and open to anyone if they are good enough.. F18 is also very possibly the ideal boat for the Olympics but the problem lies with F18s coming in many shapes and sizes.. to have a F18 as the Olympic boat they would need to standardize on one particular boat but which one? the two main contenders here are the Tiger which is no longer manufactured or the Infusion but in Mk2 form is still quite new.. so which one would it be.. whichever one it is will have a long future even outside F18 box rule racing.. so long as it was still built and I think this is where the main issue is for F18 as 'the boat' The only stable thing to do is to settle on one design which knowing ISAF and thier single-minded and uninformed approach to boats will no doubt mean the Hobie 16 has a long life yet.... Heaven forbid... for me.. Nacra F20 Carbon

So John, you trust the muppets at ISAf implicitly to do what's right for sailing? I don't, so a tenner is quite enough thank you!

Only £10 I would have bet a lot money that Hobie 16's are not at Rio. So your money is very safe

I bet a friend £10 that we would not see the Hobie 16 at Rio in 2016. How safe is my money?

There are now two Carbon F20's at Bala and there have been no problems with them other than being in creditably fast in the right hands. I
still struggle with the NACRA F18 and now the 17 as this will surely dilute an
already small catamaran market which will make the choice even worse if the 17
does get selected. For crews coming into catamarans with an eye on Rio do they
have a F18 for competitive sailing in UK and Europe and a 17 for Olympic trials??
Surely this defeats the object of keeping the costs down. |

I liked the F16, but love the 17. Think it'll be better suited to our weight to be honest. If all else fails, I still really fancy an Infusion or the F20C. Big fan of Nacra, keep up the good work!

John
Experience shows us that ISAF will do what the hell they want even if it is to the detriment of the sport. As to the cost the problem for you is that will it go in your trailer

still it'll be worthless on the used market in a few years just because of its colour :)
Anyone thinking of buying a Nacra 20 Carbon should seriously consider Pink, Lime, Woodgrain etc as finishes since I cant' ever afford a new one!

A good boat builder supplies whatever colour of boat you want, even if it is a terrible, terrible choice.

There is a problem with Andy Gray's F20 at Stone...... It's pink!!! ;-) But I understand that was the choice of the owner, not Nacra.
