He said at start::: I'm 60kgs and my crew is 70kgs-ish (about 6'3 also) and we're both going on 18. Finally we would be looking to do some events etc, so something with a decent circuit and training!

So they're a bit light for a 49er. Near perfect for a 29er though.

Theres not much of a circuit for 49ers. But theres a much bigger 29er circuit (and better supported)

Training is limited for 'beginner' 49ers. But theres lots of training for all levels of 29er sailors.

And finally, the 29er fleet is full of teenagers with a smattering of older sailors - so the social aspect will be perfect for them.

Lots of 29er sailors go on to get a 49er - having first had lots of fun in a fleet that suits them perfectly.

If you aim is a 49er have you considered buying a good condition old boat, get your skills up then when you have the boathandling etc sorted getting a "race" boat?

Ronin, the national champ Cherub is up for sale for Ģ5500 and you may all mock but its a mighty fine, well setup boat that would put a considerable number of B14s into shame for being so tatty (I'm not suggesting B14s are tatty, merely pointing out how well sorted a good Cherub can be). (Pete you can send the cheque in the post for the plug!).

Only issue is you might have to fight the legendary Chris Bridges for it!

I'd take a serious look at the B14

It'll give you all the relevant skiff training and experience without too much
cost, and will be more suitable for the water you sail on.
You can always move on up to the 49er later, taking the transferable skills
with you..
Skiff sailing and racing should be a learning curve, and the boats are not
just for blasting around in - that's what windsurfers are for...

Yeah, go for it! You can also meet the designer, Julian bethwaite at the Dinghy show  6-7th march on the Ovingtons stand.

Pass the skiff, man!
