Nothing useful to add, other than I used to own 653! Where has she ended up?

For bonding anything to anything:
CLEAN
for most bonding add
ROUGH
then
CLEAN AGAIN

Without going into fancy surface treatment malarky (impractical in most boat applications anyway) that's all you can and need to do.

And if you ever really, really want stuff stuck together, that you don't want to unstick ever, this stuff really is the dog's danglies.
Expensive and hard to get hold of mind

I found i didnt need to key the deck or anything for
evostik. just slap it on both surfaces, let it dry then
stick them together. It helps if a heater is pointing at
both bits aswell.

Andy, am i right in guessing you are a friend of Revans?
And that you have recently joined the Blackwater Sailing
Club?

If its on the deck you wouldn't want to go scratching it with a knife or anything  that extreme, but taking the shine off locally, with a bit of wet'n'dry would probably help adhesion.
