Hey ya,

Sure this may have been done to death on other posts but wasn't able to find the needle in the haystack...

What's the best way of ensuring that you get a good bond and finish when attaching progrip to a deck with impact adhesive?

Cheers,
Andy

make sure all the old snot is off the wingbar. Then degrease thoroughly with acetone or panel wipe.

Avoid sharp corners on the progrip as they encourage peeling.

also, as it says on the impact adhesive instructions, apply to both surfaces, then leave for about 10 to 15 mins, before sticking the two together.

I've read about keying the surface as well somewhere.  Do you really need to do this??

If its on the deck you wouldn't want to go scratching it with a knife or anything  that extreme, but taking the shine off locally, with a bit of wet'n'dry would probably help adhesion.

I found i didnt need to key the deck or anything for
evostik. just slap it on both surfaces, let it dry then
stick them together. It helps if a heater is pointing at
both bits aswell.

Andy, am i right in guessing you are a friend of Revans?
And that you have recently joined the Blackwater Sailing
Club?

For bonding anything to anything:
CLEAN
for most bonding add
ROUGH
then
CLEAN AGAIN

Without going into fancy surface treatment malarky (impractical in most boat applications anyway) that's all you can and need to do.

And if you ever really, really want stuff stuck together, that you don't want to unstick ever, http://www.hexcel.com/NR/rdonlyres/300F1E88-33B3-4452-8DDC-106BB1E9F58C/0/Redux810_us.pdf - this stuff really is the dog's danglies .
Expensive and hard to get hold of mind
