Lol ok matt that could be seen as slightly suspect, but the phrase was refering to the boats. We now have a new boat at our club that has you'll never forget your first cadet across the whole length of it.

At my old club anyone under 18 was a cadet - which gives the phrase 'You never forget your first cadet' slightly suspect connotations.

at a club i used to race at, there were two cadets-it must be part of the 'done thing' when you sail one to get in everyones way, because thats all they did, everyone hated them and used to swear (not me though!
) at them while they past by!

I'll always remember my first Mirror. It crossed my path whilst I was racing a board on Coniston. I lept off the board to lessen the blow but this just propelled the thing forward faster. It entered the hull just in front of the mast and managed to emerge in the cockpit by breaking through the front bulkhead. I have never seen a board so thoroughly impalled in a boat. My board was undamaged although I lost a couple of places getting it out of the Mirror before I could continue!
