I remember watching it in someones house - well not watching it exactly. There was a very fuzzy picture and it was about a 30 second clip on Channel 4. Oh those were the days when you were lucky to get 4 channels on your TV |

I remember this - it was really exciting - even more exciting than my graduation which happened in the same year and a welcome relief from all the spring time swotting for finals. I wasn't even a real sailor at the time either, more a trolley dolly.
Born to Win remains one of my favourite sailing stories too. |

It does fugit faster with every year. My younger daughter's teacher was born in 1983. She surely wouldn't remember the America's Cup either.

No, they beat the yanks, who had had (surely) the longest winning streak in international sport. I don't remember this, however, as I reckon I was cheerfully c****ing and p***ing myself at the time, what with being three and a half months old. |
