Other end of the world - LOL Hi Rob, yes it is the same Jamie, currently recovering from last weekend at Weymouth, and a six hour drive home!

I guess jamie600 is the same Jamie who used to sail a 300? If so, he does pretty well and has had one for a while, so I would follow his advice! (even if he does sail at the other end of the world!!)

Shaggy- The 600 does have a lot of rake in the rig, most of us sail
with the pin in the 3rd hole down the chain plates which should give
about 6900mm between the top of the mast and the transom bar centre. As
the breeze increases drop down a couple more holes.
[QUOTE=turnturtle] I basically invert the mast on the forestay and once the sail's up it's fairly straight rig. Given that there are no shrouds you must have a *serious* bit of rig tension on to do anything to change the shape of the mast!! As Doug suggested you should get down to some circuit events as soon as possible, everyone is really helpful and there are several forumites about (can't make it to weymouth, got to go sail round some silly little island on a farr40 , meh....) |

There is a guy sailing a 600 seriously fast at our sailing club at the moment and he seems to sail with quite alot of tension. We do sail on the sea tho and get big waves alot. My dad sails a contender (well as of tomorrow a MPS) but he said Danny was the first 600 sailor to leave him upwind so he must be doing summin right.
Il take a loose gauge tomorrow and whack it on his shroud. Edited by Calum_Reid |

[QUOTE=turnturtle] You don't want it too tight, just enough to keep the rig in the boat, so as Doug said, with your weight on the wire the windward shroud should be slightly slack. Any tighter and you will stop the mast rotating and downwind you won't be able to get the boom out. The only time you want it super-tight is in strong winds and big waves, when the whole thing is crashing around and you need to ensure the mast doesn't suddenly pop off it's support! cheers Jamie |
