Graham Scott at 80-85kgs made them go quickly in the early-mid 2000's and Charlie Cumberly it 85ish kgs also does alright, so you can be lighter.

With the raking rig, you can depower nicely

The two seem to be the favored choice for the heavyweights so I'd guess Finn will be popular just because of that. Theres more variety of boats the less pies you eat.
How widely worldwide are Phantoms sailed?

The phantom is a British class only really. There are a couple in the US and I think maybe one in South Africa but that's about it. If you want to compete in Europe or further afield it's either the Finn or the OK.

Competitive weight for the phantom is about 13 stone upwards.
Everything I say is my opinion, honest

You'll be pleased to know (not really but it is a nice turn of phrase) that my planned Xmas 'special' is a look at boats for the more generously built sailor. I know that this will give iGRF  a festive furore - seeing that he believes that anyone larger than a National Hunt (careful how you say that) jump jockey should be put onto a starvation diet and will give some others worse indigestion than a plateful of sprouts. Due out over Christmas to give you all something more than a wishbone to chew on....

I don't think there's many Phantoms outside of the UK tbh.
If you want some international sailing in a boat that can carry some weight look at the OK. While 80-95kg is probably optimum, biger sailors like Burt can be very fast and he's well over 100kg
Lots of ex-Finn sailors moving into it internationally - they get the same style of sailing in big fleets, but at half the weight and half the cost with none of that free pumping stuff!

95kg is absolutely bang on the money!

I raced at 5ft 8in and 96-97Kg this year and go well.... the Yoofs vary between 95-107Kg (and 6ft 4in plus) dependent on venue, but we don't worry about them.

You're welcome to come and have a go anytime!

I am 95kg in my birthday suit - the H2 seems to be able to carry helms from 75kg to 100kg as it is quite a big boat at nearly 2m wide and the carbon rig / flat top sail allows the smaller guys to depower and the bigger guys also have enough power. I came 3rd at the Nationals which was held in 10 to 20 knots and the two guys ahead of me were lighter than me! I won the Inlands at Draycote which was not that windy and I was expecting the lighter guys to be giving me a headache as they should have been able to get planing whilst I would be struggling.

I reckon that at 95kg I could sail a Finn - but happy to be corrected!
