Umm, I predicted "RS300 will drop to into the late 970s or bang on 980. The Laser 1 will get slower."
RS300 is now 979 and gets 6 point faster and the Laser 1 goes 4 points slower. |

No longer need to guess as the 2016 figures have finally been posted on RYA site. See http://www.rya.org.uk/racing/Pages/portsmouthyardstick.aspx
Lasers have got slower again and Wayfarers quicker. Some relief for the Phantoms as they stay the same. Can't imagine that these figures will provide ammunition for more than a few (hundred) posts but that has never stopped anybody!!!! |

Make that a Fire rig with a handicap of 1071 if it's windy and it's game on..
![]() Graham What makes you think that it is that high ? Nobody has applied that sort of number in any race - highest used that I know regularly applied is/was 1065 (same as an Aero7) and the GL number is something like a provisional 1050. My own club uses 1061 currently etc. Fire (and Halo's) can race at our Blaze events, even at the Nationals but they enjoy separate starts and are not involved in the overall Blaze results. Come along and we'll sort out a Fire rig if it is of interest - lightweights and some of the more 'mature' plus women are tending to use them for much of the time and after this breezy winter quite a few of the heavier have joined them on some days. There is little point is fighting the wind if the conditions would otherwise keep you on the shore and a better option is to hand. Some days it seems the club has attracted more spectators from some apparently 'popular classes' than competitors recently ! Edited by Cirrus - 04 Mar 16 at 11:21pm |

It's a fatuous question, really, coz I bet DNF doesn't get added to the PY database, let alone DNS...
But "unsailable when very windy" should definitely affect a boat's PY... |

Depends on your club SIs. Some clubs have a minimum number of starters for a race to count, and I expect some, somewhere, even have a minimum number of finishers. But for sure you need to finish the race.

If I can sail my boat round the course, in a wind that keeps all other boats ashore, what handicap do I get?
It's not so silly a question.. my new boat will be very slow except in a real blow, but it will be survivable in a 6, 7? I won't know til I try it, but if I turn up and am the only one wanting to race, then I win by default, surely? |

Well we all knew the Blaze would go back up once you had moved on to all that 'greener grass' out there Graham .....
![]() We'd still like to invite you as a guest to the Paignton Nationals in early June and can arrange a loan boat without too much problem. Seriously you would be most welcome. Hartleys are even offering an introductory £ 3k off for the first ten who order Blazes produced by them at the moment - tempted ? See you at the show then I guess ....
