Thanks so much! It's a total cliche but it really is the case that every single signature counts.

I have but for the sake of me I can't remember, I think it was one of those housing estate problems that got some attention, it certainly raised attention to Clarkson, and Greenpeace seem to think they do help, it can't do any harm, unless of course nobody signs, then it can have the opposite effect.

Who cares what dinghy sailors think anyway? Wink

Thanks to all who have sent emails. Woodburner, thanks so much for that suggestion! I've created an online petition here:

Obviously we're not privy to the planing application and assumed long term income projection, but Dublin's a fantastic city which thrives with short-stay tourism.  Any project that keeps footfall high is going to be welcomed I'd have thought.

I've never been very sure or convinced about that. Yes lots of jobs building the infrastructure, but how much cash do cruise ships actually put into local economies? They don't use local accommodation, most shore visitors will buy a few snacks and maybe a knick-knack or two.

I was in Cadiz last year every day 1 or 2 cruise ships visited, never stayed as long as 24 hours. You'd see the groups from the ships being shown the sights at that end of town, and then they were off again. Unless they charge gigantic rates for docking I'd think they may well put more of a strain on the local environment and economy than be a benefit.

Yep and Ireland seems to be on a roll again.  I'm doing  business in Ireland as their engineering/manufacturing prices are now excellent.  The Greeks are doing the whole of the Eurozone a favour in keeping the Euro low.   They also have a low corporation tax rate.   So, I'm not surprised to see this type of development starting to emerge again.
