I'm told 5mm is much easier to splice than the 4mm stuff.

I think it's just called English braids continuous. The hartley boats chandlery website has it. It has fewer braids so you can make bigger holes, it feels nicer in the hand than Marlow too.

Cool I'll go for that next time so. Do you happen to know the brand name of the particular English Braids line suitable for control lines? There's a bewildering away of options.

Sorry, but the Englidh Braids stuff is so much better to work with. It can be done with marlow but perseverance is key. That and making sure you've got a 4mm needle because a 5mm one just won't work.

Yeh it's hardly cheap stuff either. I went and bought extra too so I could have some to practice on. Might have to be a reef not for the time being. I've tried everything to separate this weave - no budge.

Feel your pain; I had a go and gave up, probably using the wrong stuff. Annoying because I rate myself fairly handy at anything practical.
Would be very interested so hear the make, composition and product name of the control lines that will splice.

Yeh can't understand why I'm having so much trouble with it. There's absolutely no way those strands are separating. Maybe I got sent/ordered the wrong stuff.

Just work the rounded end between the groups of strands.
I'm surprised that you are having problems but try holding the line about an inch or so either side of where you want to 'go in' and push together so that the cover slightly separates from the core and opens the weave up |

Thanks for that - I actually have the splicing needle. The issue isn't pulling one core through another. I'm having problems creating a large enough hole in the cover for the splicing needle in the first place. The weave is just so tight, and the individual strands on the 4mm in particular are tiny. What did you use to make a hole in the cover?
