I tried something similar today in a Supernova, working on the principle that perching is the way to go while I wait for my knee to be done.
the same, but different...

found an old video of mine on Vimeo- taken back when RS100s were still cool and everyone perched whilst sailing them, rather than hiking them like it meant something....

Hmm sounds like an idea for an aftermarket accessory, the EPP, Extreme Perch Plank, hi tech carbon fibre, extra sliding weights, clip over the side secure to the footstraps, making lightweights more competitive, what could possibly go wrong? Just think of it, the Phantom EPP.. or maybe even the 300EPP that would be an interesting sail

Does look that way. The 90 degree windshift that almost certainly occurred 3 seconds later must have been interesting!

b) they severely limited the fore-aft movement of crew weight, and
c) they were much heavier than a trapeze

All of which amounted to something that was more important than providing a bit of extra grunt to light crews (sail area was smaller in those days - all-girl crews were not unknown).

But maybe the Hornet class should have stuck with the spec (smaller main, jib - not genoa - and spinnaker) that allowed lightweights to compete on equal terms instead of upping the ante to compete with the Fireball;  they might have a bigger niche today in that case?  I personally liked the old tall, narrow reaching kite, and although the genoa looked better than the original jib, a short-footed deck sweeper would have been even better, imho.
