I don't know about the circuit, best to join the Yahoo group, at least to search old posts which contain a lot of info. I expect the younger element use Facebook more these days. There are a few active RS600's at Lymington and a couple in Langstone Harbour. I found the people I met helpful, but once you have the main to the top, the kicker sorted and enough pro-grip, it does seem to be largely about spending the time in the boat to learn to tack it effectively. |

Many of the boats on Apolloduck are no longer for sale.
I'm just about to get an RS 600.. because it's cheap and a good entry level into single handed trapeze sailing. I'm from a Laser sailing background. Competed around the country for several ciruits and nationals. The problem is with that fleet is there's no socializing. I've heard good things about the RS fleet being very welcoming which is one of the reasons for me getting a 600. I hope to get away to a few events and from what I hear the experienced sailors will be more than happy to help me out with the boat set up or any boat handling niggles I have... is this still true? Ben. |

yea we was very active as a fleet and a lot of ideas was put into action which worked well one being a winter series and the rs association kindly sponsored it and and even now a lot of work still goes into it with the new class rep and chunky being at the same club i should imagine ideas are being thrown around all the time and going to every meeting as well well the one a year they have for the class reps anyway

One of the last 100 events I did loads were put off by the monstrous forecast- I think Neptune was there in a 600 too. Ends of Season Champs- 2010.
However it was actually was very sailable in the morning and turned to a light & sh*te drift by the afternoon, and a breathless 'don't bother' for Sunday's pursuit race. I f**ked up and only took the girly sail. Fine for the first race, but once it dropped south of 10 knots I was totally screwed. That made me realise that if the fleet ever gravitated towards the '8.4' as the more popular choice then I'd be out of there.... got out with dodgy knee just in time then

Just recently got back from the Musto Nationals, cheap or free bar on at least two nights, food everynight included in the entry and social side was brilliant. We had two days out due to wind and the top of the fleet where to be found helping the back half sort out their boats and address any concerns, even day time socials put on when the sailing was cancelled. Friendliest nationals I have been to.
I used to spend far too much time obsessing over the forecast to the point i would be put off going if the forecast wasn't right, which if i did go would then leave me expecting the worse - wrong attitude. I now only give a cursory glance to make sure i take right kit, but beyond that, its a free time weekend to go and enjoy yourself; so go and do that. Afterall - its only a forecast so more that 24hrs in advance its just a best guess.

Some valid points their iGRF; an event has to be social.
The other thing is are more days getting cancelled due to extreme weather and is the internet forecast putting people off?
