At first we had the same thought as there is no doubt at HISC that sailjuice is an excellent series, however, we soon realised it didn't fit with the 'great lakes' handicapping as HISC has it's own handicaps based upon a some basic tidal assumptions. The Sailjuice uses a shared handicap base upon handicaps specifically for large lakes for the 'top' of each class. I also believe (but may be corrected) that part of the sailjuice idea was to have series hosted in central inland locations.

I'm not sure if it was ever 'pitched' to sailjuice, but i think there was some consultation to make sure no dates clashed.

I think for this year the focus is on making it a cracking event in it's own right. If it's good it'll find it's place in the calendar whether that be part of a series or not.

Excellent news!  Hope to get down for that one!   is it hoping to become part of the sailjuice series?  would be great to have a sea venue.

The Perisher suffered from too many cancellations and the host club drifting away from dinghy racing. When it started (a very long time ago) there was very little racing in the winter, on the sea. It was a fun event serving the locals. By the end, there were several winter series in a ten mile radius and the competitors were mostly coming a long way. Some of them, being inland sailors, thought the club were too willing to cancel at the top end of a F5, despite a lot of people not being able to cope with the sea state.
There has been talk of resuscitating it, but not this winter.

The Perisher has been revived... and will be hosted by Hayling this February. I think there will be a formal announcement soon but Portsmouth have given their blessing and it will see the return of a large pursuit to the Portsmouth area.

BBSC does have the option of a pay-and-play during our Icicle series, £5 gets you a day's good quality racing. Sure, there are other Clubs you could sail at, but our pies are far tastier...

The Hoo Freezer will unfortunately not take place in 2013.

Wilsonian have looked at taking it on (they've done the race management side of things for years), but it was too short notice considering the number of visitors, catering, paperwork and the number of rescue boats that are needed for this winter event.  Had it been summer it might just have gone ahead.

They very much hope to run the event in 2014, however, when it should be possible to make it bigger and better than ever. In the past race and course length have been necessarily limited by the need for boats, competitor and committee alike, to get in and out of Hoo Ness Marina.  Without that limitation new opportunities arise.

I thought BBSC was mainly for Wayfarers during the winter. I am also not to keen on Bewl Water.

According the Wilsonian Newsletter, they still have the Hoo Freezer advertised.

There is far more than wayfarers doing the BBSC Icicle, have a look at last years result as proof:
