Forgive me if this isn't in the right section, I wasn't sure where to put it.

ok so I’ve looked on my club website and found that in the new season I’ll have to be assistant officer of the day, I’ve never done it b4 so it should be a good experience (obviously less time sailing tho ) so I was wondering is there an age restriction as to when u can start doing these duties? Does it vary club to club? At the moment I’m 15, 1 of the occasions of me been "AOOD" are when I still be 15 the rest I’ll be sixteen, so the age restriction can't be 16 (if there is one) can it?

Any help at all will be appreciated
cheers

Different clubs get people to start doing it at different ages, its all up to the club. I hate doing it cos I dont get to sail that day!

Welcome to the elite band of Race Officers.  This is a seriously responsible job which often gets abused by people who are not able or brave enough to do it themselves.  Whatever age you are you should be proud to have been chosen to do this job which requires skills which can only be gained by being very good at dinghy racing.  It is also a great opportunity to make sure you know how races are run and will be the best preparation you can get to understand all the constraints - you'll be better at racing after you have done your duty, particulalry at starting, I guarantee.

That is a horrific attitude, and one, if held by many in
your generation, will see the end of Clubs able to run
using a volunteer / amateur establishment.

Think what you get for your measly junior
membership fee, and the tiny percentage of time that
you have to carry out duties (like everyone else)

If your Dad does it for you, he obviously does not
think that advancing your moral fibre is a worthy part
of your education.

It's a sad day
