Please could someone put very simply how the Americas cup works...It's all over the tv and everywhere here and I can't work it out.

I didn't have a clue what it was about not very long ago so i looked it up and my understanding of it is (please correct me if i'm wrong) :

1)There are "Acts" in the years between the actual cup event. The purpose of these acts is so that boats can measure their speed against each other and to provide entertainment. The latter acts also contribute points to the first round robin stage.

2)Then there is the "Louis Vuitton Cup". This is a series of match races to eventually determine who gets to challenge the defender in the "Americas Cup"

3)The cup itself. The defendant and the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup go head to head in a best of  9 match races to determine the winner.

That and the wiki are the sites i gathered my info from, double check them if you really want to know about it as I have probably not got some it right.

I understand it now!!!

Plus...I went to the Port Americas Cup yesterday, saw the boats and one Italian team and got the Spanish T.Shirt! hehe!
