Kitesurfing pal of mine helping me refurb a new office made a chance remark the other day, regarding the towbar on my electric vehicle, which got us into a discussion about towing and why I had one.

He then astonished me by adding he's not allowed to tow anything (he's got a VW T5) why not said I, haven't got a license he retorted.

Apparently these days it's yet another test and probable training scheme, I've no idea, it's bad enough that this generation (80's kids) don't even bother to buy cars, but the fact they have go go another hurdle before they can tow a boat, explains why the travelling is falling off obviously from natural wastage.

Something else we should perhaps consider offering maybe, how do these kids learn to tow I wonder, what are the hoops they have to jump through, when did this all start? Anyone here recently passed a towing course?

It's a big hurdle.

Thought I'd just check, Beginners towing course three days £660... Hmm think he'll take up some other sport that doesn't involve towing.

Go on DVSA site for true details, came in 1997 I believe, you will find you can tow a trailer even if you passed yesterday.

You need a full car licence before being able to tow with any larger vehicle. A full car licence already lets you tow trailers weighing no more than 750kg. You can also tow heavier trailers with a car as long as the total weight of vehicle and trailer isn't more than 3,500kg.

As posted above, this really is very old news. Cannot think of any dinghy trailer combo that’s over the above limit.
It only really effects caravan owners and people moving heavy machinery/plant .

Annual checks for everyone over pension age, sorry but the numbers sitting in the middle lane of the countries motorways suggest you folks need re-testing, albeit along with a host of others. Now if someone could tot up the cost of that and just re-employ the traffic police you used to see pulling people over and driving at 69 in the middle lane so people didn’t just sit at 75-80 in the outside, that would be great!
Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one

I drive on a lot of 60mph single carriage roads, I would charge for under speeding (if that's a word) as well as speeding, it's just as dangerous, don't get me started on HGV's, rolling road blocks.
