Here is a photo of Olympic Gold Medalist Mr Goodison using a hiking bench.

A cruel, medieval device for torturing children... don't believe me?

Check out this other google find from the 'Proper Course' blog.... lunacy, utter lunacy... someone give that kid to Esther Rantzen sharpish...

So to counter this evil 'hiking culture' that has pervaded an otherwise gentlemanly pursuit of sailboat racing, please post some of your 'extreme perching' photos to prove that looking good and lazy sailing are not mutually exclusive.

Extra points will be awarded for 'maximus glute overhang' rather than pert bottoms in rooster hikers on the end of perfectly-extended straight leg hiking poses.  If you want that, go check out the Zhik catalogue for honed athletes that couldn't perch for a pilchard.

Anyone appearing to actually hike properly, or rather more likely, grimace, sex face, vinegar stroke or bust a testicle from clearly attempting to hike properly will be forced to run a lap of the Grafham Water car park... in their pants.

A-Game perchers are the International Canoe fleet- they even have a perching plank.

For an example of the best extreme perching on a normal monohull I could find to start this thread, see these lads... they've got it dialled-down perfectly-

That looks like...

It can't be is it?

The supreme sailing system? Are they EPS racks?

I had cause to actually dangle posterior recently, it's a damn nuisance, but when you find your downhill speed and skills keep bringing you into the lead, you get all enthusiastic about holding on to it and do all manner of perverse things going back up wind, tacking on shifts and everything..

If he was on water in that shot, his bum would be 6" under...

I'll have to dig out pictures of my perching "technique".

To be fair, rupertson loves hiking hard, however much I tell him that perching is better. It might have something to do with seeing how cool his father looks when sailing, and realizing he can never compete...

The Perchmeister.. note the complete inward reverse lean to make absolutely certain at no point does any part of the body hang over the side of the craft...
