Smelly boots

Anything to get rid of bacteria.
I found anti-bac hand soap a little too frothy if not rinsed really well, especially if the boots are largely composed of neoprene.
The cheapo pine-fresh disinfectant gives me a rash, so I use the slightly more expensive version.
There's a big black bin in our garden, for sailing gear only. It's full of water and disinfectant and gets changed at least once a week. When we come back from sailing, all wet gear goes in there overnight and gets dried during the week. Recalcitrant smelly boots get the Oxy-Clean treatment: 1 spoonful of Oxy-Clean in a bucket overnight, rinse a bit, no foam, no smell!!  

The other thing to remember is to dry the boots fairly quickly, with plenty of air to circulate. Headfry and I have got the same garden decor: sailing boots on bamboo canes    Chelsea Flower Show next year, headfry??

A friend at my club reckons sticking them in the freezer before washing gets rid of the smell.

I'd try it myself but my wife has threatened me with....well lets just say it would be very painful, if I even went anywhere near the freezer with the boots.

  use it as an outboard if it does'nt work on the boots.

I think it stands for Putrid Shoe Insides, 500 being the cc's of oxygen you need after sticking your hooter in a boot.
