Matt,

You will easily be able to buy a rondar contender for £2000, but you may have to wait until one becomes available.  Dinghys are not like cars in that there are fewer around.

It depends what you are looking for, but anything that is trouble free will be £2500 and up - When I sold 651 it was in this region, and that was on a 10 year old boat

You will find the occasional boat come up for sail at a low price, but these are usually to be avoided unless you are willing to do some work.

Think of it like buying a car - 2nd hand and trouble free £2500+, Banger £500!

I concur with MB though, stand your ground and go for something that fits your budget when it arrives - but don't expect much to be on the market until October / November - season end

When you find a big kettle of crazy it's probably best not to stir it - Pointy Haired Boss

Or for 2,500 you could buy a competitive 600!

Hi Matt,

I may know of one for sale. I will check with the person who owns it and send you the details.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks
I realise I will have to wait a while,
but really im looking for a race ready contender.
I think 2 500 would be by limit but hopefully something
will come up around that.
Thanks Paul That would be much appreciated

Jeffers means me Matt.  I had 620 for sale for a while because I can't sail right now.  But it has a full carbon rig (unlike 651) so I was asking c£3k even though it's an older boat.

I've been watching the contender market for a while because I would simply be upgrading to a newer boat.  There are some around for less than £1000, but not much in the middle market.  Unfortunately for some the attraction of a great Worlds in Weymouth next year means most people are hanging on to their boats for fear of selling then not ebing able to get a replacement - including me!

Yes, I mean Ive been warned of early Rondar Hulls,
apparently are quite heavy so been looking for later ones
sort of past 500 and early wavelengths. Also had my eye on
the Blaze market as well as they seem a good boat and there
all ready one at my club.

I took Ronday 473 to Canada to be chartered for the worlds and it was still on weight when measured in.  I would suggest joining the contender yahoo group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/contender/

and also visiting the new forum on the international site:

http://contenderclass.org/

If you ask around you can sometimes get a boat before it comes on the market - that's how I got 620

i might be selling my contender in august for about £1000 if you want it send me an email the hull is fairly old but if you were thinking of spending £2000 on a boat you would have enough to spend on some carbon for it
