Contact lenses?

   What do dinghy sailers who wear contact lenses do? I figure it's not possible to wear them cos you'll lose them as soon as you capsize? I've had a pair of prescription sunglasses made up, but I'd obviously prefer not to have the worry of losing them (very expensive!). If I do lose them, I can't see past my nose!
Wondering if any other dinghy racers have had this problem and if anyone has any solutions? Many thanks xx

	I wear prescription glasses and sunglasses and, when I go sailing, I wear one of those glasses straps. I used to wear contacts but I've always been so worried about losing them that I've never even tried to wear them while sailing. I've capsized many many many times and I've never lost my glasses. Thank goodness for that! I wouldn't be able to see the shore without them! As long as you've got a good strap, I don't see why you should worry about wearing glasses. Contacts? Yeah, I would worry....

	I wear contacts when I sail - there really isn't anything to worry about. I've capsized in them plenty of times (quiet Clifford!) without losing a lens. I have lost two lenses (over eight years or so) in sailing related incidents - one washed out of my eye sailing in huge waves and another got knocked out of my eye when I was derigging a boat and the clew of the sail flapped and hit me in the eye. I've lost track of the number of pairs of sunglasses I've lost or damaged though!

	I sometimes sail with contacts in and i put my normal cheap non perscription sunglasses over the stop but i think the best lenses for sailing are daily disposables like i have because if you do loose them, so what go and get another pair out of the box they give you!

	I use an old pair of specs with clip-on sunglasses. They're just two shaded lenses the same shape as the glasses, with four hooks round the edge and a bendy bit of metal between (if that makes any sense at all...) Coupled with one of the neoprene-style glasses straps (not string) the only problem i've ever had is losing a lense getting boomed in a topper.

	I too wear my lenses when sailing and so far no problems. Sometimes when I get a face full of water the lenses feel a little odd, if you don't panic and start rubbing your eyes, the lenses will settle down. I have been water skiing in mine and fell in! - still no problems, just try not to screw your eyes up when you hit the water, stay relaxed about them and let then settle. I always have spare ones with me though, as I am sure one day I will loose one or both!! Some of it is, being confident about wearing them in the first place. PS. I also swim in mine and if I dive underwater I am happy to open my eyes though i'm not sure if this is recomended by the manufactures!! but it was my way of gaining confidence. At first I was horrified at the thought of contact lenses in my eyes. But they are fab now

	I wear my lenses when sailin and ive never had a problem with them. I was worried they would fall out at first but they never have and I find it alot better than wearing glasses. I would recomend wearing them.

	Ive started wearing contacts for sailing and not lost one yet. If you have disposables its not such a big deal anyway if you loose one. Big bonus is it means you can get cheap sunnys for sailing and not stress if you loose them

	I'm a complete convert to sailing in contact lenes. I'm not very short sighted (unlike the helm) so I used to think I could cope without them. Earlier this year the helm lost his glasses during a spectacular 'upside-down on trapeze' capsize & we both got contacts (thanks to Headfry who recommended them ). We've got daily disposable ones and they are fantastic. We haven't lost any yet and they don't get uncomfortable even after a day in the salty spray. Much better than worrying about crashing into the forestay and smashing your specs.
