I've been having aspirations lately for something fast
for the weekends. Not necessarily something to race as
I'm quite happy mixing it up with the L2K's and
RS200/400's on a Sunday Morning and Monday Night.

The RS800 would be up there as a possible choice but
perhaps a little too expensive just for playing about in
when the weather is just so.

I've been following ChrisGs RS400 vs B14 thread with
interest. The B14 sounds a laugh but I would prefer a
twin trap.

Would a tin masted (picking up all the terms now!) B14
cope with a couple of fairly heavy trapeze monkeys?
Presumably at the same time you would make the wings a
bit smaller?

In this configuration would it still be sailable and
would you expect it to be any easier or harder than the
800?

As we're completely ignoring the class rules at this
point, would it also be much work to add a kite chute?

It would certainly be interesting, but you may be better of
sticking to something designed to have twin trapezes as it
will be better designed for sailing in that format, RS800
would seem the best bet

Sounds like an awful lot of work butchering a perfectly nice boat, when there's what you want (ie the RS800) already in existence. The 800 will be easier- hell, the 800 is frankly easier to sail than the B14 in stock configuration.

As discussed in one of the recent threads, it probably would be a lot of work to add a kite chute, and doomed to failure due to the low freeboard of the bow.

Or you could get a B14 and sail it as God/Bethwaite intended? Hiking isn't that bad, honest!

What would be significantly different between this creation and an International 14?

True. In my head an I14 would be very difficult to sail and
cost the earth.

Not if you buy Chrisg's boat, thats a lot of boat for you buck!  Probably the fastest boat your going to buy for under £2k and probably the best boat for blasting about in!

All dont forget that the b14 was originally the b14e which had a single wire, and it was changed for a reason.

No it wasn't. The original B14 was the two man hiker.

Wasnt it the same hull design, without the racks and a different sail plan? Over here anyway?

leave the racks as they are and trap off them.

You'll go like a scolded cat in breeze.

If you wanted to mod it further extend the mast with a stump and add a new goose neck and lowers position and then add area to the main sail at the foot and get a bigger jib. Thats one hell of a nutty machine you'd have.
