well it looks like my 300 is going next weekend  really going to miss it but cant justify having such a nice boat and only being able to use it every other week (not when they are in such demand).

reason for sale is that i wanted to free up some cash as im now in uni. this means that the next boat needs to be cheaper. i just dont know what to get. im 70kg and a reasonable sailor. dont mind trapezing or hiking. probably singlhanded but mabe double at a push/depending on the boat. i want something which will improve my sailing.

suggestions anyone?

Blaze, Vareo, Old Laser (mines for sale!) RS600,

It all depends on what you got to spend. TBH a boat sitting still every other week isn't bad. Its the boats that don't move from one year to the next. Um, I could name some at the centre, a Laser EPS, Pico, Topaz, Escape Cha Cha (Yep there's one of those) etc etc

It all depends on budget. I recon a Blaze could give the excitement of the 300 but as a cheaper option.

I don't think you're going to free up enough money to make much difference... Decent boats tend to cost roughly the same amount of cash... You can have an old shed and spend all your time on maintenance instead, but its probably more expensive. Get down to one boat, sure but beyond that I think the chances of freeing up significant amounts of cash and still ending up with a boat you're going to enoy sailing every other week are slim...

budget is anything under 3k really, the cheaper the better to be honest but dont mind too much as long as its under the 3k mark.

i know the boat isnt coming to any harm sitting still. its just unfair to keep it when theres people out there wanting to get on the circuit with a boat and cant find one.....

a laser was potentially an option, vareo im too light, 600 i was considering but blaze i have never thought about much. how much is you laser up for by the way?

Tom there is a cheap RS600 on apollo duck at the mo, if i didnt have my impending court case i would be looking seriously at it.  I wouldnt go for a blaze after the 300 mate, you will be disapointed.  The 600 will be a bit of a challenge, the laser is going to offer big fleet sailing at a cheap price, what about a contender??

What makes you say the Blaze will be a bit of a disappointment Russ?

I'm on the verge of considering one for single hander nights, are they a bit
lame then?

Then again fit one up with an Altopole system and kite should make it a bit
spicier off wind?

Edit and what's with the court case? Hanging out too long in the mensroom
with George Michael?

My brother had one, and i sailed it loads and just thought after sailing a 300 it just didn't tick my boxes.  With the Kite though i would think it would be a different monster.

I am not knocking the blaze, but Tom has sailed a 300 for a while and as a former 300 sailor that tried a blaze i think he would be disappointed.

Court case is for speeding on the way to the Lord Birkett, big fine/ban/ loss of job worse case!  Or even worse being locked in a cell with George where no one can hear your screaming!!!!

Was it the Police or a camera?

Could be good news for you if the latter, I heard somewhere there has been
a bit of a milestone ruling about the inherent illegality of all cameras..

I guess a 300 must be a bit of a mission, the one at our club rarely surfaces
and only when it's still and there's a great golden ball high in the sky..

i know what you mean jim and thats sort of what im worried about. the 300 is a wonderful boat. the thought that its probably going to go on saturday does make me sad. i love it to bit but it doesnt feel right only sailing it every other week during term time.

am i just being an idiot here in not letting the boat go? or does this kind of indicate that its the right boat for me?

just had a gander at that 600 russ. it really does look good at that price. very tempted. i just wonder if after the 300 that it wont be quite right for me? how much of a challenge will the 600 really be? i mean it cant be that much tippier than the 3....
