Is your mast an angel one Iain? mine doesnt seem to have weave on the outer layer like that, the visable layer is uni fibres wrapped around at 30 degrees-ish and where it exploded around the gooseneck you can see where the fibres separated and twisted out

Nope, it was me.  Here it is...home made spreaders (carbon over balsa) and finished in International Perfection 2 pack.  Rigging was from Pete Bond at Severn Sailboats and somehow all the lengths and spreader angles were right first time (although it now has a little more tension in the caps giving more prebend)

When in doubt, you need something that plugs in makes more noise than the next guy...

I've always just been able to pull alloy sleeving out of carbon spars once all rivets were dealt with. Obviously you have to cut off anything that's distorted though. You could try warming up the carbon with a fan heater and running a hose down the alloy to shring that...

Yeah but the aluminium's shattered inside and it can will only be able to be used as a reefed 600 sail (which is kind of for the best really!).  About 2 inches of the aluminium needs to be cut of the carbon mast but i don't know how to do it.  I've tried a hacksaw and chisel but that doesn't work.  Any suggestions??
