And the 12ft skiff stand, yup - I now also have my name down and bringing one into England, so Aquas on the market!    At least this time im selling a cherub for a greater cause, and not a 49er again! hehe!!

Thanks for the photos tim. Last time I saw her she had no deck on!  The trapeze line is like andy said I took the core out of of the rope and put the shokcord in. I have not tryed it yet but I have seen 49ers using it so we are going to give it a go. a litle worryed about it not uncliping when I stand up to tack. 

We have the jib cleat so far back in the boat so I can hold onto the sheet during tacks and I do not trip the crew up.

Andy what is wrong with the front of her??  I am not to worryed about how it looks as most people will only see the stern!!!!!

the JIB sheet is lead back to the helms man as he is the one that uses it! It is a standard thing on all the Ovington 14's. The RMW boats have it at the front. but when it is windy I need to crack the jib before the tack and sheet on again after it. When it is at the back it does not impead the crew, if it was at the front and I was holding it behind the crew he would trip up on it. Makes sense to me.

The trapeze thing as you call it was copyed from Chris and Simon's Olimpic 49er so there must be something in it. I have not tried them but we thought we would give it a go we can always take them off if we dont like them.

If you dont try something new how do you move forward? 

I think that there are a few factors to consider here, chiefly, whether the boat has a self tacking jib and also the wind strength.

My boat doesn't have a self tacker so the crew needs to attend to the jib sheets but this is what I do...

Light Wind - Helm takes the main so that you can get more control (and also the crew is sat in a foetal position crammed between the kicker and lowers)

Medium Wind - Crew takes the main and gets on the wire, they are responsible for trimming the sheet and keeping the boat flat. Helm takes the jib but generally not much need to feather the jib as we don't often get overpowered.

Strong Wind - Helm and crew both on wire, in foot straps, gripping with toes and hoping for the best. Crew takes main, Helm takes the jib (mainly as something else to hold on to!) Due to the fact that the Helm is on the transom and the jib cleat is at the front of the cockpit uncleating isn't easy so takes a special technique! It can pay for a particularly skilled crew to take the main and the jib but that takes a bit of practice.
