Pontoius Pilate had the same view!!!!!

Basically the RYA has submitted 8 SAFE votes and then is taking the stance that by not supporting the other 2 it can absolve itself of the consequences. Yet it claims to be making very difficult decisions.

Being realistic we know that a keelboat will be in. Mainly because of the paralympic sailing is done in keelboats, thus reducing costs for both events. So that is Star and Yngling....IMO Yngling, sure Star has been dropped once., Sorry Star

So that leaves Tornado, Finn and as it didn't get through the 1st round the Star, IMO this will end up a battle beween Finn and Tornado. Each has its merits and pitfalls. Personally, if not predictably, I back the Tornado...not just because Im a cat sailor but as a glamour boat at full speed they are spectacular, the change in heart from the USA, the much debated petition, correctly worded or not, (IMO it is sufficiently worded), has shown a worldwide support for the multihull, as well as the popularity of cat sailing aound the world. At this point I must say sorry to Ed Wright as this will shatter the dreams an almost guaranteed medalist in the Finn class in 2012, I hope you get your chance in 2008.

I think you guys are forgetting this is just one of perhaps 60 MNA submissions to ISAF.

The RYA dosn't run ISAF it's just one of many MNA that submit their input; seems to me that the petition should lobby ISAF not the RYA then the international flavour of the supporters would have some relevance.

We are talking to ISAF.

Sort of. You can be an individual member (which I am). But you can also be a member of an affiliated club, in which case the club pays a per-capita membership contribution to the RYA. In either case you are contributing to the RYA's coffers and they are there to represent your interests. Anyone involved in competitive sailing in the UK is required by the RRS to be either an individual member or a member of an affiliated club.

Exactly, I would suggest most people on here are members of a sailing or yacht club; thus (I assume) they are affiliate members of the RYA'; Thus they have the right to be fairly represented by the RYA.

IMO the RYA have not fairly represented the view of the MAJORITY of sailors that feel there should be a catamaran at the olympics.

By NOT proposing a catamaran, they have not represented the views of the nation's sailors.

I did not vote for this govt. but I have the right to complain about them.

That's a big assertion. Got any evidence for it?

It is the opinion I've formed that more than 50% of sailors feel that there should be a catamaran at the Olympics.

It's the wrong question really. Relatively few sailors are likely to believe that a class should be dropped. The correct question is, if one class has to be eliminated from the Olympics, which should it be?

Personally, I'd say Men's 470, given that there are three other men's dinghy classes, all of which arguably have a better case to remain.

Stefan, I Agree; I'm asking the question I want the right answer to; BUT as you have said this, why are the RYA NOT supporting a catamaran then ?

They are not representing the views/wishes of sailors.

It is always going to be difficult to drop a class.

You may be right but you've haven't really presented any evidence for that, and asking the wrong question in order to get the answer you want doesn't really move the debate forward.
