Euro Wizard,
great point

Assuming that we decide that the RYA are trustworthy or course, otherwise we go to BOA, ISAF direct, personally I think that the RYA don't deserve much trust on this from their recent actions.

Why should the RYA decide who attends such a meeting rather than requesting representatives from across our community?

We need a representative cross section who will transparently, clearly and firmly represent us.

Maybe we should have the main cat class chairmen.
ie:Tornado, Hurricane, F18, Spitfire, Shearwater, Dart, ....a youth 16 sailor, UKCRA, SNECCA etc..
Plus maybe one or two big names... Reg, Ellen?

to be fair, i think RYA Scotland chipped in towards the cost of the Andy Webb training for SNECCA

RYA are supposed to be servants of the sport, not masters of it.  Where was the consultation seeking members views?  Cat sailing is far more representitive of UK sailing than windsurfer racing or women's keelboats.

There is lots of talk including me about leaving or spliting away from the RYA.  However is there another route, should we encourage our sailors to stay with the RYA or join so that we can influence their strategy. What do we know about the RYA constitution can we get people voted onto the governing committee on the back of loads of peeved off cat sailors I doubt if many people bother to vote, can we stage a democratic coup

I'm thrilled at the response so far, with 874 having signed. And to think: the petition was only started on 25th sept at 3.07pm. I bet most of us haven't yet visited our sailing clubs since the petition started. We'll spread the word more widely at the weekend.

I am also thrilled with the high number of dutch/flemish/german sounding names. Just wait until the french wake from their siestas. I bet they'll have something to tell the RYA. Have they been informed, does anybody know? Sacre bleu!

I think you would find that the RYA would be delighted if more people stood for election for the council.....there are normally four vacancies per year for people to represent the personal members and normally only about 6 people stand. They also regularly advertise for people to sit on the various sub-committees and specialist groups.

Organising a coup might be more difficult, but having informed cat sailors spread throughout the Association I'm sure would be welcomed.

It will be interesting to see if people put their money where their mouth is and volunteer their time.

What vacancies are there, and on which sub-committees and specialist groups?
