If you want any extra building tips then feel free to pop over to www.uk-cherub.org as there are plenty of people who have built their own boats, including spars, foils and sails who would be happy to help. Also, I know that Andy Patterson of Bloodaxe Boats (sails at Gurnard) was having a clear out the other week so may have some bits and pieces which will help you on your way.

Good luck. The boat looks really good. Really nice project.

The person to speak to on here about sponsorship would be hughph (send him a PM). I know he asked about it some time back and now he has a couple of sponsors.

Other than that speak to any local boat builders/chandleries you might catch them on a good day.

For sponsorship, firstly start local, see if you have any contacts that could be useful, since every little helps! If you need people for a specific set of parts e.g. blocks then think of everyone you can and send them all a letter, trying not to make it too generic. We did this with loads of clothing companies with my old squad and fat face ended up giving us some stuff and some stickers as well :)

What are your goals with this?
I like the look of it, but what are you aiming to do with it?
If it's a matter of getting it on the water, then scrounging an RS400 rig bit by bit might get you there. I've got an old main that I'd at least lend you if it was the last bit in the jigsaw. (but I want a go on the boat in return :-)     ). It's usable but won't exactly look nice on a new boat! FWIW I bought a very much better one secondhand for under £100.
Alloy masts that would work can be found on ebay sometimes, or try the forums for classes like 505, scorpion and fireball. I think all those sometimes use the cumulus section that the RS400 has, dunno if the hounds etc would be in the right place.
It's still going to cost in fittings, rigging and insurance.
Perhaps look for some sort of partner to share the bills?

Good Luck, let us know how it goes.

Firstly I'd like to say a big thank you for all the comments!
Its so good to get people responses, views and idea!

This is the first Paperjet 14 to built in the UK that I know of, hull number 21.

Firstly I'd like to let you guys know a little bit more information about what's happening.
The build of the paper started in easter 2009 at my high school, I started work with a group of people and the D.T technical in free periods, he was originally a boat builder and his knowledge was vast. after a couple of months the group dispersed, people went there separate ways, collage and other education routes.

My main reason for getting involved in boat building in school was because I was crazy about boats and among other things I nor my family could ever afford a boat. As I was by myself I grew pretty attached to the boat, I spent most of my study periods and even skipped some lessons to work on it but progress was slow as I was only a novice, but my technical was a great help. Unfortunately you're not really aloud to sand epoxy in schools without correct extraction which the old building didn't really have.

At the end of summer 2011 the school systems changed and our high school gained years 6 7 and 8, to find space for the extra students the school took the decision to convert the Design technology rooms into class rooms, this meant I had nowhere to continue building. I was pretty upset about the news, which they gave me in the middle of my exam period, as a result I walked out of a couple of exams, and failed the rest :S (silly I know.) but the boat meant a lot to me.

The hunt was on to find somewhere to store or continue building!
I managed to find a very small business unit that the boat just about fits in, and i've been building in there ever since.

My goal is to complete the build by the summer to race in the Cowes dinghy week in gurnard at my local club!

Hull weight 45kg
All up weight 68kg
10.2 sqm main
14.0 sqm Spinnaker

Again thank you for all your comments, please continue to follow my progress and post your views.
Thank you

John Hathaway

Looks a nice boat, just needs a bright colour scheme... What made you choose this over something more common?

this is the boat I posted a pic of on page 1119 of the Favourite Photos thread:

http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=382&PN=1119&title=favourite-photos

The hull does look great, but I agree that rig leaves a lot to be desired.  I do have various spare masts, booms etc - all alloy, plus maybe some odd sails (in fact some very odd sails) that might be of use depending on how picky you are....

If that fails try the odds and sods request section of the cvrda, all kinds of stuff can be sourced that way....
the same, but different...

hey, I'm planning to paint the hull white, and varnish some of the bright work I've seen they way some people have painted theirs so I've got a few ideas.

The Paperjet was affordable and just what the school paid for (:
I'm not going to lye I would choose a 600 or 700 but I just don't have any money unfortunately but that's life and I'm happy building (:
