Life's full of decisions..

left or right up the beat
stella or youngs
ski or snowboard

if steve decided that he wanted to attend the wedding of his best mate rather than sail the last day of the champs then that's his call, and really nothing to do with you (or having any relevance to this forum). It's not like he hasn't won the champs before on at least two occasions....besides the reference to 'former crew' is a reference to the Bride with whom Steve won the champs in '95.

To say that the championship has been tainted because Steve dind't sail the last day is ridculous - Nige & Emily are worthy winners. Does their 'win' count any less in that the champs from last year choose not to attend this year as 'a nationals at hamble isn't like going on holiday for a week'

I'm sure everyone involved was aware of the scheduling - indeed with the reception happening saturday night it's hoped that a large number of hungover firefly sailors will be in attendance....

Congrats to Nige & Emily

Nigel. sorry but the first post of this thread is completely inapproriate.  It is nothing to do with you what Steve or the other competitors decide to do.  Steve is a great guy who often gives his time to others, and I guess this is just another example of  that generosity.

As put above, if Steve decided that he wanted to attend the wedding of his best mate rather than sail the last day of the champs then that's his call, and really nothing to do with you.

Crazy thread, crazy first post

There are solutions to wedding / sailing event clashes... click:

Wedding Race at Lyme Regis Sailing Club

Reflections Trophy at Chippenham

I'd like to raise a toast to Simon and Jo on Saturday - everyone who agrees reply saying "To the bride and groom! Cheers! "

I'm just sorry I can't be there. Steve, don't get Simon plastered tonight!

I don't think the thread is pointless - it's an issue that crops up from time to time and I think it's interesting to see the range of opinions on how such issues should be resolved.

I now realise I'm completely out of step with the majority, but personally, i'd not dream of organizing a wedding in the sailing season, and I'd fully understand if friends chose to sail instead of attending my wedding where, after all, their presence is hardly fundamental to the act taking place. But then, I wouldn't want a big wedding in any case, and if the mother in law stayed away, so much the better... Maybe organizing it to clash with the WI AGM or some such would be more to the point!
