Wedding Race at Lyme Regis Sailing Club

by Chris Turner 20 Jun 2007 11:13 BST 16 June 2007

Thirty five boats turned out to celebate the wedding of Chris Turner and Kthryn Broom at Lyme Regis Sailing Club on Saturday. A mixed handicap fleet including Scorpions, Merlins, Albacores & Red Eye Solutions to name a few enjoyed perfect Lyme conditions.

The race committee had obviously been very creative the evening before when a C K course was posted in the SI's including a Cocktail break at each leeward mark. However the rib had run dry by the start of the second round, perhaps they had been consuming their own concocktions as some of the results might suggest. Tim Parsons and Sarah Maguire sailing a Scorpion won on the water but failed to comply with the sailing instructions by not drinking their cocktail and were therfore demoted to second place. Jeff Vanderborght sailing his Phantom became the eventual winner as he along with his imaginary friend managed to finish second on handicap and finish both his drinks.

This did however affect Jeffs performance later in the evening at the club where an auction was held for 'The Candles on the Cobb' which is a local charity supporting many childrens charities. The auction featured America's cup gear generously denoted such as Charlie Mckee's race jacket used in the LV cup final, signed Mascalzone shirt and signed Russel Coutts shirt from the Med Cup.

Chris and Kathryn would like to thank those that celebrated the day them, those that donated to the auction and not least to Lyme Regis Sailing Club for hosting a fantastic day!
