I doubt it - SPOTY really is just an annual jamboree, show me an example of where someone has got more sponsorhips or tv coverage from winning spoty in a minority sport. Even when Zara won there really wasn't much more then a segment on the news that night and that was that. With the economy broken the opportunities for sailing sponsorship next year will be limited. Anyone seen a major sponsor announced for Cowes Week

Where the Sailors showed they had what it took was in August in Qindao and their fantastic achievements really helped the sport standout. However given that as a nation we relatively over-achieved in other sports compared to sailing which has achieved well for at least 3 cycles, then our sailors had to share 'their day' with the paddles/swimmers/rowers/cyclists who had also got medals. I don't think it helped that they weren't seen 'on the sofa in the studio' due to the distance logistics. Hopefully for 2012 someone could fly/helo them up to London for the 'post match interview' and back again to support their sailing team-mates, which was one of the many great things about Qindao.

Ben and the others did ace, but if we're going to block vote then let's make it a block vote for Bryony 'I'm just so fcuking excited' Shaw..

Hoy or Cooke should win, but the cycling vote will be divided, so Hamilton will win.

In any normal year each of the contenders would probably walk the vote. It just shows how competive it is this year. When was the last time there was no soccer, rugby or cricket players nominated

As a long term motor racing fan I would normally vote for Lewis, but it has to be Ben as far as I'm concerned. The sailing team seem to of lost publicity because of how well they did in Sydney and Athens, it was all expected. In contast to Becky Adlington.

I guess Hoy will probably win however and he also deserves it as a winner in multiple games, and the team prize will go to the entire Olympic team rather than any 1 section.

One last thought is that Ellen Macarthur was second after coming second in the Vendee Globe. So sailing does have a following and I would encourage everyone to Vote for Ben

Sports PERSONALITY of the year.  Why have we got that moody dreary crusty Murray when we are missing people like Victoria Pendleton?

I have to say I am torn, I'd like to see Ben win it for the sport of sailing, but arguably Iain & Bart are the bigger PERSONALITIES in the sport and had the bigger hill to climb to bring home the bacon.

To me in many ways sports PERSONALITY is about how much someone gets you out of your seat and screaming blue murder at the TV willing them on...and for that our rowers deserve a lot of recognition...however your average Joe Public would hate to see somone from a toff's sport such as rowing or sailing win...

James did not make the final 3 youngsters - although I think he was not last of the top 10 - did you see the bbc podcast with the Bavaria in the background - crap for the image of the sport - and boy did we try to get them to use some of the footage from the ISAFs - after they made the effort to get to HISC one afternoon couple of weeks back it was a shame - James got a ribbing on facebook! Either way good for sailing what ever media attention we can get.

Nick.

If you take the concept of personality literally, then surely she of the jimmy choos would have to win?

Otherwise one of the Cyclists....or are they all going to war with each other over Wiggins or Hoy?  Again for me Wiggins is probably more the personality.....but Hoy is cycling's headline act.

Ainslie will get my vote of course - totally biased as I am.  A top 3 would be magic for him.
