i keep checking, www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk, Y&Y classifieds and http://www.apolloduck.co.uk/ although you could always go on the rs600 yahoo group and ask if anyone is planning on selling their's.

I found a very cheap one (750 pounds) from just chatting to people on the scottish skiff circuit and the yahoo group, the guy wasn't trying to sell it but was happy to let it go. The bargs' are there you just need to look hard, and make sure people know your looking!

The latest on the foils was that Full Force and/or LDC would only look at putting them into production if they could be fitted very easily to existing boats and removed easily too. At the moment the boat requires a fair bit of surgery to accept foils and once converted, it is no longer a 600.

The opinion at the AGM was that foiling 600's as a racing class would not be welcome, after all why fragment an already small fleet?

There was concern for the long term health of the class too, at the moment there are supply issues with new boats and if all the old, cheap ones are snapped up by people who want to convert them to foils, where do newcomers to the class get a boat from?

By all means shop around, but check the cover being offered and don't just accept the cheapest premium.

Thats funny.

My premium with Noble is £354, for my RS800. And it supposedly has the old-for-new policy. I don't know at what point this policy allows me the right to a new mast? But when my current one is 6 years old and has snapped for a third time, am I right in thinking that I am? No, don't be daft.

In no way am I aiming this directly at you. Just having a rant.

Hi,
I'm selling my 600 #790.  Good condition, comes with:

  • Combi trailer
  • Top and bottom covers
  • Superspars mast
  • Carbon extension
  • Foil bags
  • One OK condition sail (good for playing)
  • One sail in as new condition (only done a few races)

Price is £2400 ono and it's based in Cheshire.  Email me for pics at:
ted 'at' targetmedia 'dot' net

p.s. I suspect the days of the cheap 600 have quite rightly been and gone.  They are brilliant boats and represent excellent value for money, hence the recent resurgence in the class.

All comprehensive dinghy policies provided by Noble Marine, include New For Old cover for any part of the rig, damaged beyond repair, irrespective of the equipment's age at the time of loss.

There is a possibility that the mast could be repaired, but if not, we'll pay for the new one.

I'm not aware of any company offering a third party and theft cover, but most will offer a third party only option.

Insuring older 14's is hell. Mine was £800, insurance quote was £300 which is nuts, unfortunatly it is (usually) the same premium if your 14 is £15,000 or £600  I'm sure many older high performance boats are not insured for this reason.

£300 to insure a 14 valued at £800, sounds high to me. Our premium would be £187.19, although we wouldn't recommend insuring the boat like this for such a low value as a new mast or spinnaker is going to cost more than that.  Our premium for a Int 14 valued at £15000 would be £561.59.

I've also had a combi trailer stolen from inside a locked and alarmed boatpark and the insurance company were refusing to pay out until they were threatened with the press/legal action. My policy on insurance for anything is the bare minimum.

I can only assume that your insurance company have increased your premium due to this and perhaps other claims you have made recently.  Have you checked this with them?

This was a different boat with a different insurance company, and it was my dad's policy anyway.

Don't knock boat insurance guys. my car insurance is cheaper than the boat, but....... I'm not going to get a new car if I break it beyond repair!!!!!

I am getting a new mast for my 49er though

Good point!

Imagine the conversation - "Hello Direct Line? I was thrashing the nuts off my car, trying to race this bloke in a Corsa, and my head gasket blew. Could I have another one please?"

From that perspective the full racing risks cover we have on most dinghy policies is generous to say the least
