Another slow day question. What is the status of the Mass production Cherubs/variants that were entered into the ISAF trials. Are they available now for regular people to place orders?

Never known a supplier yet who wouldn't take an order.

Sometimes its wise to check delivery dates as well... I once knew of a supplier of mass production motorcycles who took orders for a particular pair of models so long before any deliveries were made that we in the trade suspected at the time that they didn't actiually design and build the bike until the advance order book demonstrated there was enough of a market!

According to the Carbonology site you can order a boat now, I think moulds are being made straight after the Nationals so delivery shouldn't be too long...

From what I have heard if you they are still working on a qualification system so you can prove you will be able to cope with a Cherub.

I think the current plan is to require a small test peice i.e. compass bracket or tiller extension you have made yourself which will be evaluated before your order is accepted.

If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Seriously?  Doesn't that defy the pre-mentioned "regular people"?

Hah hah. Cute. The only thing I can make these days is a signature on my checkbook. I'd rather spend all my available time sailing. Thats why I am wondering when the off-the-shelf Cherubs will be rolling out the door. Question is whether either one of these two boats will hit the market with or without the Olympic class status...

Without. The earliest there could possibly be a decision on whether or no there's a womens high performance dinghy is Nov 2007. I think the actual choice of class would be Nov 2008.

Right. Perhaps I mis-worded my question. I am wondering whether the two manufacturers in question will go ahead with the mass-production investment irregardless of the Olympic selection or not. I believe they have committed to a <14K Euro sticker for the trials but that has to be factoring the volume sales anticipated from the Olympic class status. So if they are not chosen then what will the likely sticker price be?
