Hi, me and my crew are looking for a 2 man non trapeze dinghy. The place where i sail doesnt give you much time to trapeze so its not really an option. Id probably prefer symmetric as all the classes at the club are symmetric. Me and my crew are both 15 and reasonably experienced. Not fussed on sailing in handicap either. Together we weigh 18 - 19 stone ish. Something fast (well faster than gp14s solos etc). There isnt many out there that i know of but if nothing comes up we may be able to get one with a trap. Any ideas? Price range is about £2000 maybe a little more! Thanks |

I was thinking about a lark. How much slower are they than the RS200? weight range? |

RS200 PY 1059, Lark 1073, so not much in it, and in the conditions you describe the Lark might even win more often on the water because of its symmetric kite. Light teams have been successful in Larks, so that's certainly one to consider. Scorpions are nice and (PY 1056) quicker still, but I'm not sure about the crew weight requirement. |

For £2000, national 12 all the way, could not get a 200 or a decent lark (post 2300) for that price.

I would prefer a boat with a spinny to be honest, prehaps the MAX i can go up to is £2500. Basically a PY lower than 1080, or faster than the ol' 420! Need something to actually compete with the other boats rather than be near the back! Larks are quite hard to find especially up north aswel same with the 200 so im not quite sure on which boat would do the job! Any more ideas? |

I tend to sail as a girlie team and we're always very light - I had an RS200 and we were 16 stone all up, great fun whatever the weather but you're looking at £3000 upwards.
However, I'm now helming a Lark and despite it's being hard work in a blow the rig is forgiving and in the light stuff you'll fly. Keep you're eyes open on the website (www.larkclass.org) and I wouldn't rule out doing a little work to an old one and buying a new suit of sails. Alternatively, if you're considering a trapeze - I guess a Laser 2 would be a cheap, and slightly quicker, option. |
