Or maybe not ... just heard from a member who raced his V3000 for the first time last weekend:

After trouncing the Medium fleet last week in a F.4-5 (expected of any 3k when Buzzes are the only trapeze competition), raced in the Medium a F3 today with similar result, and in the afternoon in a mere F.2 in a 30-boat all-club race. Those conditions were death in the Laser 3k on 1030 and we'd have wound up 4th or 5th on PY at best, but we got a 2nd to the RS400, racing on 1010, beating the lesser 4000's, a 59'er, an MPS and an 800 on the water.

Another option for a first event could be to pick up on a scheduled combined classes event (say N12s & Cherubs) at a fairly large venue, and persuade other CAs to include it into their calendar. Have to act fast though TASA as calendars for 2007 are now being finalised by clubs and classes. Any of the trap/assy CAs have anything suitable to offer?

Reckon Yellowhamer's comment about splitting classes is the way to go, possibly PY assymetrics above 900 and assy's 900 and less. The Scottish Skiff Series make sure their events don't clash with specific class events to ensure higher attendance levels for their own events. Getting the class associations on board would give much more credibility to the concept and help to establish it more firmly. As for training events, getting the right coaches is essential, if you have a bad training event, people will simply not go back to another one. Part of the key to the success to the Scottish Skiff series is all the training events have been well organised and almost everyone who attends the events, contributes input to moving the series forward. Well so my helm tells me........

In short Rick yes and no....

We are of course looking for class backing for any class of boat that wishes to join, however say for example one class assocation wishes not to get involved as a whole, that doesn't mean that individual boat owners of the same class cannot join us..

We do however have interest from all the Class Associations that we have contacted.

so far we have 3000, 4000, ISO, BUZZ, Spice, RS800, international 14 and Cherub owners all registered on our site, without having any class assocations support us officially, as we are still talking to them.

Yellowhammer you make a very good point which Alex and i have been discussing and all the events for 2007 will be going up shortly on the site and forum (as we are still wait to hear back from various clubs and Class Associations RE: dates etc). You are right we are seeking to cater for the slower Trapeze and Asymmetric classes as well as the faster ones, our whole aim is to get more people out and sailing!

The speed difference between 14s/5k and 3k/buzz/etc. would make this a good idea, even the tide ride had the the 14s out the way of everyone else I think!
