Topper has got to be high on the list. Cheap, plenty of racing, plenty of coaching, right weight.

Easy- Topper. Too light for anything bigger in competitive terms. To be honest you could do with putting on a stone and a half to be the optimum weight for a topper- but I was lyour weight when I was 14, and I got to 9.5 stone when I was 15.
You can get a brand new boat for £2000! I'd advise you to spend less than that on a decnt 2nd hand boat with all the racing kit, for £1600 you can get a 3 year old boat that is fully kitted out. What club are you at? |

To be honest you've really got to look at what is being sailed at your
club. You've got quite a few options open to you. Yes a
topper would be fine but ive never really liked them and always looked
at them as ironing boards on water but thats just my personal
opinion. You'd be okay for racing in a laser 4.7 too, and also a
byte CII - they look fantastic boats and might have a good future ahead
of them. Alternatively you could just be a bit of a lightweight
radial sailor. I sailed a radial for ages at 8 stone but it does
mean you have to do a hell of a lot of work for relatively little speed.

You could manage in a radial- however because you're at West Kirby you're likely to get a lot of breeze . If i were you I'd prefer a boat I could take on the tide there in aforce 5 plus, than one I'd struggle with in medium winds on the marine lake.
If you are planning on doing the open meeting circuit then the topper one is one of the best in the country in the North West, I did it for three years and learn loads and had a lot of fun too. If it's just for club racing: what singlehanders are there at WKSC that race? |

If your just after a club racing boat and your 2 man is your main focus i'd say the Byte CII. Much nicer to sail than either the topper of Lasr 4.7. There should be a new supplier v. soon and you can pick up a good second hand hull and put on a brand new CII rig and have change from 2K. FOr any questions PM me. |

I might be sailing it, but it's still sh**e!
