GPS Watches are down to class rules.... they are not disallowed in a lot of classes.

Jon how about you stop commenting on situations you have no idea about, and get off your arse and go sailing! The facts are i have been sailing for over 20 years, i have competed in hugely different conditions and at a variety of levels and classes, I have however never raced in the bloody Mary until today, the conditions were horrible with freezing fog etc. I was told to launch by the Marshall's from a different part of the horseshoe, i had not sailed on Queen Mary before to realise how big the peninsula was, neither was it easy to predict the wind speed on the lake, due to a lack of visibility. A GPSS position on a lake is ridiculous and yes i found the start line in the end obviously unfortunately i was very, very late, i could not of physically prepared for the race anymore, in hindsight i would have told the Marshall's i was launching where everyone else was and that would have saved me the time to get to the start line. My only groan was that idiots in the rescue boat not helping me out with an angle!! |

Thanks Merlinboy, Well said. Jon As a newbie (Ok registered ages ago but posting all in one day) it is a real pain to have people answer after every writeup. The idea is you read and contribute informative information not waffle on just to raise your post count. |

I think that the class rules will tell you if and when you can use them at CLASS events, but at an event such as the BM, class rules are overriden by anything the the events Sailing Instructions. If your class let you have a GPS, but the SI's say you can't have one .. the SI's will win. If they don't mention it and your class allows them, check with the RO .. It could be they are adding an amendment, or they just don't care. RE the BM ... It was cold. Thats all I have to say. (And I didn't even go on the water!!) |

Not so. In handicap events your boat must comply with class rules unless there is a specific item in the SIs. If you don't want to comply with class rules you need to tell the organisers that you are *not* racing a whatever class boat it is but a one off boat which is similar to the xxx class, and ask them to allocate you a new handicap. On the subject of the results, what on earth is a "Punk"? I know the "Halo" is a modified Blaze, but the other I've never heard of. Edited by JimC |

If im correct it is a single handed dinghy which dan holman designed and I helped build last year (built at Synthesise Yachts and Design). At the time we built it he didnt have a name for it, but I guess you could compare it to a laser, however is a bit longer and made out of carbon, with a very nice seamless hull joiint. Hull weight of just over 40kg's
