I think this is probably the best option. When I was at Uni I had very little time to sail anyway! Just one point why do you not get involved in Team racing? It is one of my favourite areas of the sport and I still do several events a year ![]() |

Jon: if I recall correctly, he's of to Falmouth- they may not have a team, as a smaller, multi-campus institution.

After the covering/slowing down antics of the summer, I wish I had done some team racing. Those tactics are really useful when results are tight.

i wish my uni did team racing. it would be good to get such a depth of knowledge in the rules that this gives. their 'sailing' constitutes of a few hours a week spent on a J24 producing a 1st and 2nd sailing team with 2 spare bodies. these 12people share the single J24 for training and then go to events, hire 2(!!!!) J80's to match race |

Why cant you just go and join Restrongeut with your 300, and trail it down with you when you go back to uni ?
I used to chuck my Laser on the roof of my dads car in Sept when I started the academic year and then Id do the same to get it back in the summer. Could normally find crewing positions in the Christmas and Easter hols and all was rosy! |

i did that last term and got a large amount of abuse because i was having to leave my road base under the boat. apparently this is not allowed. but where am i meant to leave it??? also met a lad there same age as me who owns an 800 so going to try crewing for him for a bit and see how it goes. tom |

Wheel clamp it and it should be fine.

Not allowed to keep your road base under your boat !!!!!
What kind of stupid rule is that? A combi base hardly takes up any more space than a trolley and the whole sherbang can be tied down just as effectively. Keep the 300 on the combi, at Restrongeut and tell them to poke it ! |

it's not a space issue- it's a security issue I'm guessing. I've been in a club before with a less-than-secure dinghy park, that's is in a secluded location. The rule there for road bases (in order of preference) was: A: Take it home B: Take the tow-bar off C: Invest in a proper lock for the tow-bar- one of the ones with a ball that sits inside it. Your boat might not be worth stealing, but someone elses may be. Option C might be an idea for Tom? He'd be advised to run it past the club first. |

I have heard that dinghy trailers are very nickable in there own right. they are generally strong a frame type and can easily have a box bolted on them and the serial number plaques drilled off or changed.
