I lIke Gill products normally, but the hiking boots are not that good. The velcro zip closure tab at the top keeps coming undone meaning the boots will unzip anf the gel on the sole 'bunches' up to form lumps under your feet.

Anything wrong with the Rooster ones? I was about to buy some...

There are a few comments against some of the boots in the Y&Y 'shopping' section:

A few people have left star ratings too. But the comments are the most enlightening. Seems one particular Rooster boot is popular.

The Rooster boot that has popular listings, the Rooster Zipped Boot, was exactly the same as the Gill ones before they changed them. the current Grey Gill hiking boot is pants. The sole has no grip at all, and is dead uncomfortable. The tab, as has been said is not good either, I wasn't that impressed with them from Gill so then got the Rooster Hiking boots, and love them.

The Rooster Hiking boots are more comfortable as they don't cover your ankle so when hiking make it easier to flex the ankle.

Personally get the Rooster ones, don't walk for miles in them and that way the sole will last longer. That said, the Gill ones wear anyway.

I've not found anything to better the Rooster boots.

I'd avoid any with a zip on them, they always seem to come undone.

I'm aware I'll get accused of 'boring' y'all with windsurf speak but I will
anyway.

We both use the split toe boots we use when sailing our race boards.

Why? Primary reason? We used to swim, a lot, and splitties work more like
your bare feet in that regard.

Other reasons? Good for toe straps, him not me. Minimal water intrusion
therefore less weight, I imagine a good couple of kilos swilling round in
yellow wellies.

Just my three happorth.

rooster hiking boots have served me well, grip is getting a little worn down now but that's mainly due to use and hauling boat up and down slipway which wears down all grips in the end anyway - never had an issue with the zip coming undone but I fold the bottom of my wetsuit legs over the top of the boots normally and I think this helps keep the zip closed and stop it coming undone, they are flexible too, which defo helps
Feeling sorry for vegans since it became the latest fad to claim you are one
