It'd also very cheap now, I've seen some good ones going for £1000 on ebay. What else can you get with that kind of performance and reliability for such a cheap price ?

I agree the 4000 has been the only boat i personally would have bought from laser apart from a laser but im lazy so prefer hanging off the side rather tha hiking my arse off for not much go fast. Would be nice to see some one like Vandercraft take the 5000 mould and maybe get a carbon rig on it carbon wings and try andtake 50kg off the hull. And a mast head kite.

Oh dear starting to sound like another "what would you do with the 5k if you could" type topic

Ill stop there

Go Big or Go home or sail a 49er!!!

50kg out of the 3000?! you've got your wires crossed there... The original hull weight of the 3000 was "79" kg and i think it is now around 50kg. (i put the 79 in brackets as its probably to the nearest 10kg!!)

If you look at a december issue of Y&Y with the classes review it's clear there really isn't too much money to be made in high performance dinghies, especially if they last well and have been around a while since people will just buy second hand. The number of new boats each year is tiny.

The margin on plastic fantastic easy to sail boats is bigger and there is a far bigger market for them.

I know how you feel about needing something to aspire to. The ads I saw in Y&Y for laser's (then new) asymmertic boats make me wanty to get out sailing and improve. I remember seeing a hyde sails ad as a kid of 11 with an I14 and thinking 'wow, maybe one day...', and now I do
